From 2012-2015 he was Technical Director of the “scintillating”, “impeccably curated”, and “truly original” (Time Out NY) multimedia chamber music series Ear Heart Music, a “major cultural resource” (New York Arts) in New York City’s new music landscape. Curated by artistic director and flutist Amelia Lukas, Ear Hear Music paired adventurous musicians and composers with other forward-thinking visual and movement artists across live painting, dance, live visuals, photography, and film.

Charles founded Mekhos Audio Productions in 2008 as a recital recording service at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. With hundreds of performances to document each semester on campus, demand and skills grew quickly. He moved to New York in 2009 to pursue graduate study in NYU Steinhardt’s Tonmeister honors program, currently the only Tonmeister certification program in the United States. Mekhos Audio continued recording dozens of orchestral, choral, jazz, chamber, and early music ensembles throughout New York City in the intervening years.

Outside of audio production, Charles is a seasoned choral singer with repeat performances at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Verizon Hall, and Madison Square Garden. He enjoys collecting vinyl and synthesizers. He holds a Master of Music Technology from New York University (Stephen F. Temmer Tonmeister honors), and Bachelor of Arts from Lehigh University (Computer Science) with post-baccalaureate study at Westminster Choir College (Music Theory & Composition). He lives in Westport, CT, with his wife and son.

CHARLES HAGAMAN, proprieter

Charles Hagaman is an audio engineer and sound designer. In an audio career spanning the full gamut of musical genres, his specialization is in the recorded documentation and technical realization of new works by living composers.

Charles joined the technical crew of Brooklyn venue and nonprofit presenter National Sawdust in 2015, “an incubator for diverse talent that consistently pushes the boundaries of the artistic experience.”(All•Arts) He was Production Coordinator and media archivist for three seasons, overseeing the technical management of every performance, workshop, and private event in the venue space, and the asset management and postproduction of every resultant recording. In 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic forced cancellation of public events, he became Technical Director of Digital Media for the Live@NationalSawdust initiative, where artists recorded sets at home that were then edited and streamed, as an effort to support artists and continue presenting bold new performances in a time without in-person gatherings.
